Devlog frame © sgthale — the post that first said "a demo is in the works as well" (July 2026).
Viral clips make it look like Family Time is "out" somewhere — so let's put the three versions people mix up side by side. Everything below was checked against official pages on October 13, 2026.
The three states, at a glance
| State | Exists? | Where | |---|---|---| | Episodic demo | ✅ Yes — playable today | itch.io project page → Patreon | | Steam Early Access | ❌ Not participating | — | | Full release | ❌ Not out | Planned Q1 2027 window on Steam |
1. The demo — real, free, and episodic
The playable Family Time is the Episode demo line: Episode 2 became free on October 9, 2026, and Episode 3 continues it "with more features and bugfixes" (official devlog wording). You get both through the official route: the itch.io page pointing to patreon.com/sgthale. The demo guide walks the path step by step.
2. Steam Early Access — no
The Steam store page has no Early Access section — EA games carry a dedicated block explaining the program, and this page doesn't have one. It says plainly: "This game is not yet available on Steam." The developer has announced no plan to launch into Early Access either (as of the check date). If that ever changes, pages here update with a fresh date.
Why the confusion? Two sources feed it:
- itch.io shows "Status: Released" — but that's itch's label for "this page publishes downloadable content", i.e. the demo. Platform semantics, not a shipped game.
- Viral gameplay clips come from that demo, so it looks like a live early-access build. It's the demo, distributed the indie way.
3. The full release — wishlist and wait
The full version exists today as a planned release window: Q1 2027 — a window, not a date, and not a promise. Release date holds the sourced timeline. The practical move while waiting: wishlist the game on Steam, play the demo, and let the official channels announce the rest.
